ESO alternative
Looking at alternatives to ESO?
This page will disqualify a lot of departments in about thirty seconds, and that is deliberate. ESO does two things we do not do at all, and if your department needs either of them, you should stay where you are and we would rather not waste your afternoon.
What ESO does that we cannot
A certified ePCR with automated state submission. ESO is NEMSIS compliant and files to your state. Ours is not finished and we do not sell it. For any fire-based EMS agency that transports, this is the whole decision and nothing further down this page outweighs it.
Prevention and inspections. ESO covers community risk reduction. There is no inspections, permits, occupancy or plan-review module anywhere in stationOS. If you have a fire marshal, we are not a candidate.
Beyond those: fleet and field readiness, scheduling and personnel, EMS billing, and a support organization with thousands of agencies behind it. ESO also owns Firehouse Software and Emergency Reporting, so if you are on one of those, staying inside the family is the lowest-friction path available to you.
What stationOS does differently
For the departments still reading — operational, mostly volunteer or combination, not transporting, no prevention bureau — here is where the two genuinely differ.
The alerting and the records are one system, not two companies
ESO’s alerting story runs through a partnership with IamResponding. Ours was built by the same people as the reporting, as one system, which is why the responder list — and the rig each member rode — lands in the incident report without anyone typing it in. The seam between alerting and records is exactly where the re-typing normally happens.
Built for NERIS, not converted to it
Our NERIS codes come straight from the federal spec, so when the feds change it, we find out before your report does. reports checks each report, submits it, and catches any that get stuck partway, and stationOS is on the FSRI integration-partner list.
Response that is native on every surface a member carries
The phone, the watch, the car’s own screen, the lock screen, a rugged Garmin, the rig tablet and the screen on the apparatus floor — one live feed, with spoken dispatch, a ramping tone, an escalation ladder for silent members, and offline behavior that treats a dead zone as normal rather than as an error. The watch, the car screen, the lock screen and the rig tablet are iPhone and iPad. On Android, it’s the phone and a Garmin.
Doing the work earns the credit
A member finishes a rig check or a duty shift and their LOSAP-style service points post automatically. No secretary transcribing a clipboard into a spreadsheet every January. Here the checks and the points are the same system; in most others they are separate products.
One price, printed on the website
$3,999 a year for everything, up to about a hundred members, unlimited devices and stations. For a volunteer chief with a board to answer to, a figure you can put in a budget request without booking a demo is worth something on its own.
Is this actually a fit?
We would rather you find out here than twenty minutes into a demo.
Worth a look if
- You are an operational department — volunteer, combination, or a district that does not transport.
- You have no prevention bureau and no fire marshal writing inspections.
- You are migrating off Firehouse Software or Emergency Reporting anyway, and the renewal quote prompted a look around.
- You are paying separately for alerting, scheduling and apparatus checks and want that consolidated.
Not yet, if
- You transport patients. You need NEMSIS submission and billing. We do not have it, and we will not sell you a promise that we will.
- You have a prevention bureau. Inspections, permits and occupancies do not exist here.
- You need EMS billing, accredited training course content, or fire-investigation case management.
- Your state or county chose your vendor for you, which happens more often than people expect.
Coming off Firehouse or Emergency Reporting
We have an importer for Emergency Reporting, and it reads the reports you print out of ER rather than connecting to it directly — so your history comes across, but hands-on, with us on the call rather than you clicking a button. We import NFIRS data directly for the years before the sunset.
For Firehouse Software specifically we do not have a dedicated importer today. If that is where your records live, say so early and we will tell you honestly what it would take rather than discovering it together in month two.
We promise help, not speed. Plan to run the old system read-only for a while afterwards; everyone who has done this and been honest about it did the same.
Printed, so it goes in a budget request
Tell us what you need first
If the answer is an ePCR or an inspections module, we will say so on the call and you will have lost five minutes instead of an afternoon.
ESO product details on this page come from their public documentation, last checked August 2026; verify anything decision-critical with them directly. NERIS and FSRI partner status are publicly checkable. stationOS details reflect shipped code.
